THE ANTHROPIC PRINCIPLE

the universe is especially tuned for life

or

life has fine-tuned itself to the universe

see also the anthropic principle 1 ... the man shaped being... evolution

12th october 2011

if any one aspect of the universe was different by the tiniest amount we wouldn't be here

if there was one star less in the universe we wouldn't be here

if the electric charge of electrons ( electricity ) was one millionth more or one millionth less we wouldn't be here

if the mass/weight of the universe was a millionth more or a millionth less we wouldn't be here

if the expansion rate of the universe was one millionth less or one millionth more we wouldn't be here

if the " lumpiness " of the universe was one millionth more or one millionth less we wouldn't be here

if the gravitational pull of all of matter in the universe was one millionth less or one millionth more we wouldn't be here

if the proton/photon ratio was different by one millionth...

the list goes on and on

everything has be exactly the way it is or we wouldn't be here

it can only mean one thing... life and the universe are, for at least 1 ^100 years, bound together

unfortunately it leaves us with a sequence of events that doesn't make sense

for now we are thinking about the notion of a designer-principle universe that was brought into existence by life for life and then, in defiance of the law of averages, begins the life processes on a planet that formed out of carbon and other elements at the earliest possible moment a planet could have occurred after the universe began and maintains those processes for 3000 000 000 years so as to predispose conditions so that bipeds can evolve and then fails utterly at the first attempt

(the dinosaurs)

if it failed with the dinosaurs it could fail with us

(mammals)

and consequently with any other class of being that might evolve

how on earth can you have a universe created by life, with all the fabulous powers that such a concept implies, that has to get every single thing... the electric charge of the electron, the position of the earth in relation to the sun, the configuration of the dna strands, the... etc. etc. down to the molecules and atoms exactly right for the sole purpose of allowing the emergence of beings who can understand the reason for their existence but the same process becomes bungling and inept just when it matters most

it just doesn't make sense

however; if we introduce the novel idea that from amongst the dinosaurs one species, man shaped, succeeded in attaining a level of sophistication that enabled them to achieve perpetuation independent of earth and then after 65 000 000 years of mammal dominated evolution, which is roughly half as long as dinosaurs ruled for, another, man shaped species

(ourselves),

achieve a level of sophistication which enables us to perpetuate independent of earth

it not only makes sense, a pattern is emerging and we can further speculate that...

in 30 000 000 years, which will be roughly half as long as mammals took to evolve, another class of being will evolve from which one species, man shaped, will attain a level of sophistication that will enable it to perpetuate independent of earth

which in turn allows this speculation...

the universe/earth/life evolutionary processes allows for the continuation of different classes of man shaped beings to evolve until the sun becomes too unstable in about 5000 000 000 years

allowing for another 1000 classes of man shaped beings to evolve, each one as different to the next as dinosaurs are to mammals, and then permuting just 30 of a possible 1000 we achieve a figure of 250 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000

the idea of a man shaped dinosaur isn't new

that they might be alive and well is

such speculation appears to have no real contact with what we are doing here and now but is it not the very nature of our being to wonder what the future holds for our children

so cherish and nurture our existence, co-lovers, for the anthropic principle is spelling it out

all of us share the same fate as the universe

the universe will be expanding for the next 1 ^100 years

that is how long we have to orient ourselves to reality

after that it's the mechanism of love that sustains our motions into infinity

be of forever and join with love/life

see... ethical parameters... genetic theory... soul partners...

why isn't it reasonable to say that with so many stars in the universe there should be many solar systems with planets that have life on them

well, the reasoning is...

the number of stars in the universe is 1^20

half of those stars are twin-star solar systems which makes a stable planetary orbit unlikely

twin-star system

so now that's halved the chances

then there's the carbon consideration

there's a little over 100 elements in the universe

if you add up all the ways those elements can be put together to make compounds the number of ways carbon can be made into compounds is more than all the rest put together

which gives us, as carbon based life forms, incredible versatility and scope

now how did life know beforehand that carbon would have those qualities?

life on began on earth between 3500 000 000 and 4500 000 000 years ago

so it began when the earth was still being bombarded by giant meteorites

surely it would have been more sensible to wait until the heavy bombardment period had finished

what was the rush ?

it's as though, like when birth occurs for mothers during an air raid, life has to emerge at a specific time regardless of the conditions

then there's the combinatio of the molecules

to arrive at the right combination of molecules for the life processes to begin there were 1 ^163 different ways that wouldn't work or were less than ideal

(1 ^163 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 0 000 000 000 000 000 000 times bigger than 1^20 than)

to get the right combination it would mean having to try a million combinations every second of every day for thousands of millions of years

how on earth did life get the right combination so quickly?

then there's the physical condition of the universe itself

the universe has to be expanding at just the right rate for the atoms to take on the characteristics they have so that carbon can form

the electron has to have an electric charge of 1^51

1^50 or 1^52 means that carbon wouldn't have formed and we wouldn't be here

the same is true of all the particles in the universe or carbon and ourselves wouldn't be here

then we have to ask why did life happen on our planet at the earliest possible moment life could have occurred on a planet after the universe began when the law of averages says that it shouldn't happen until about half way through the cycle time of the universe or a galaxy

the law of averages dictates that life should occur 50 000 000 000 years after the universe begins and not at the earliest possible time it could occur, as was the case

the more those circumstances that life needs to exist are taken into account the greater the anthropic principle becomes

in ordinary language the anthropic principle is saying...

WE ARE IT
