NOTES
To jackal75 and all newcomers to ThePirateBay...
It's frustrating to the nth degree...
We've just spent hundreds of our meagre resources on a computer and related hardware
Then had to fork out more for a connection which doesn't deliver what it says on the label
We can't afford to go to the pictures... then we hear about ThePirateBay and start doing what more and more people are doing... enjoying old and new marvellous movies on the cheap
So with a renewed vigour for life we get to TPB's home page and tap in the name of a film we've been dying to see
Then the problems start... we press the biggest and most conspicous download button and the film doesn't download
We go back to the main page and follow the instructions and install a programme that downloads films
When the films downloaded we try to play it on windows media player only to find that we need a codec
What a nightmare they are
(It's deliberately made as difficult as possible to watch films for free)
So we give up on windows and download another programme promising the earth
Still a codecs problem with most of the films
We come across media player classic and we're on a roll
In a week we get a prompt telling us to update the programme
Duly we install it only to find the codecs problem is back
So we plod on for a year only able to play half of the films we're downloading (can't imagine what it must be like to have a limited download contract of 3gb)
But we're determined to get to the same satisfaction that other people who leave comments are getting and keep on looking for the all singing player
Somewhere the memory remains that the first time we downloaded the media player classic nine out of ten films were playable so we try half a dozen different versions of it to find the one we first used
But it's still not playing the majority of films
We try to use the codec compatibility features in the classic but hey, it's hours and hours of trial and error
It's getting to the point where it's simpler to watch whatever the tellys showing
But the best films are on the internet just waiting to be plucked from cyber space
Then you stumble onto the home page of the guy who wrote the media player classic programme
You download that version only to find that the codecs problem is still there
In sheer desperation you go back and take another look at the settings within the programme
You see something in the drop down box that appears when you press the "view" tab that says "options" and press that and see something that says "old renderer" when you press "output" under the "playback" section
The word old rings a bell because you remember that the first old version you downloaded played nearly all of the films
You've tried a hundred and one other combinations (only another 27 million to try) so you tick the box with an air of unexpectation and try it on a couple of films you've had for a year or two which you've been dying to see and behold! you've cracked it
Every film you download from then on becomes playable
It's so great to realize that you can now watch every film on the internet you go into debt and buy a 32 inch flat screen tv, link the computer to it and go into a film fanatics version of seventh heaven
enjoy
thanks to everyone who puts the time and effort into to the initial downloads
